Squamish RCMP are seeking the public's help in locating a man who allegedly exposed himself in public near Valleycliffe Elementary School.
The incident, reported to police on Monday (Jan. 30), involved a man allegedly masturbating in public, then fleeing, RCMP Staff Sgt. Guy Pollock said in a statement.
The suspect is described as a male in his 20s with Caucasian features, between 5 feet, 2 inches and 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with lighter coloured hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a dark-coloured hoodie or Arc'teryx jacket, beige pants, black boots and a beige toque, Pollock said.
Police are asking anyone who may have encountered or seen the man, or who has knowledge of the incident, to phone Squamish RCMP at (604) 892-6100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Break-in, theft probed
Police are investigating a break, enter and theft that occurred last Wednesday (Jan. 25) at the office of the B.C. Ministry of Children and Family Development on Hunter Place.
At 12:29 a.m., members answered an intrusion alarm at the office and found that a window had been broken, and it appeared that electronic devices had been pulled through the window. A police service dog team was called in and officers found some of the stolen items. Police then obtained a search warrant at a residence and recovered more of the stolen items. The investigation continues.
Driver assaulted
On Thursday (Jan. 26), police were contacted by a taxi driver who said he had been assaulted by a male near the Squamish marina. The driver had picked up the man from a bar in the downtown core. A suspect has not been identified and the investigation is ongoing, Pollock said.
Drugs seized, arrest made
On Friday (Jan. 27) at around 10 p.m., police attended a local pub to arrest a man in relation to an ongoing police file. In making the arrest, officers searched the man and found he had 3.3 grams of cocaine on his person, along with nine bags, each containing four grams of cocaine. In addition to the matter for which he was arrested, the man now faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, Pollock said.
Cash drawer stolen
On Sunday (Jan. 29) at 7:42 p.m., police received a report of an alarm at an auto service shop on Progress Way. Police attended and a glass front door had been shattered. A cash drawer was stolen from the business, Pollock said. The matter is under investigation.
Witnesses sought
Police are seeking the help of anyone who may have witnessed a fiery crash that resulted in the death of a limousine driver in Whistler on the weekend. The collision of the limousine and a blue pickup truck, which occurred on Saturday (Jan. 28) at 11:10 p.m. about 500 metres south of Function Junction, has been well reported in the media, but police are seeking the help of anyone who may have seen the crash as part of their investigation. If you can help, please contact the Squamish RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
Precautions urged
As a result of a recent rash of bicycle thefts in Squamish and elsewhere, police are asking bike owners to take basic precautions to secure their bikes. That includes recording serial numbers and engraving identifying marks (such as a driver's licence number) on bikes and other valuable items including electronics, barbecues, etc.
