Mayor Rob Kirkham to seek re-election

Last three years have been a privilege, says mayor

Mayor Rob Kirkham announced today (Sept. 2) that he is going to seek another term as the mayor of Squamish.

“It has been an honour and a privilege for me to serve this amazing community for the past three years,” Kirkham wrote in a news release.

Kirkham joins Ron Bahm in the race for the community’s top political job.

This time around, the terms are four years in length. That is a change from the past when terms were only three years.

Councillor Susan Chapelle has announced she, too, is seeking re-election while Councillor Ron Sander announced last week that he wouldn’t be in the election race.

Rob Weys and Peter Kent have both confirmed they plan to make a second attempt at council after unsuccessfully running for councillor seats in 2011.

School trustee Laura Godfrey announced this week that she intends to seek re-election while Andrea Beaubien has decided she won't be looking for another term on the school board.

Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) representive Moe Freitag has decided he won't be seeking re-election to represent the people of Area D of the SLRD. He said if nobody steps up to replace him then he'll step up.

Those elected in the next election will serve in office through to November of 2018.
