The Merrill Park Summit Trail in the Garibaldi Highlands is closed for 10 days, from Feb. 13 to Feb. 23, to clear out debris and logs following a contentious hazard tree removal project.
"Starting today J. Hunter & Co. will begin the long awaited clean up of the park," stated district trails coordinator Todd Pope in an email to interested parties.
On Tuesday (Feb. 13), excavator J. Whittaker joined J. Hunter & Co. began removing the debris from the top of the trail downward.The debris will be loaded and hauled away by truck. A traffic control person is at the trailhead to intercept anyone wishing to hike the trail and advise them of the closure. Signs and barricades have also been set up to inform the public of the work.
