A bad dope alert has been issued for Squamish.
The Vancouver Coastal Health text alert system told its subscribers on Wednesday morning, "Multiple suspected fentanyl overdoses reported this week in Squamish."
Garth Mullins, an advocate for drug-user safety shared the alert on his Twitter account.
Vancouver Coastal Health releases the alerts to those who sign up for the service based on reports from drug users and members of the public.
Anyone in the VCH region, such as people who use illegal substances, can report overdoses that show unusual symptoms.
"People can report what town and neighbourhood the substance was purchased in, types of substances thought to be used, and the physical description of the substances. Photos of the substances can be uploaded to the web form," states Vancouver Coastal health on their website.
VCH staff then warn people, health care staff and community organizations about contaminated drugs.
Reports are anonymous unless the person wants to disclose their contact info.
If there are reports of contamination, the health authority suggests users have a safety plan; take a test dose, not use alone, and ensure a take-home naloxone kit is on hand.
