No second round for Wanduruppa

South Asian communities like Wanduruppa, the village Squamish is helping to revive following the Dec. 26 tsunami, were put on alert after a magnitude 8.7 earthquake Monday (Mar. 28). There were fears coastal areas could be slammed a second time following this latest quake, which originated off the coast of Indonesia. Humanity Village Project director Patti Heintzman received an e-mail message from one of her contacts in Sri Lanka. People in Sri Lanka were asked to move one to two kilometres away from the coast. Wanduruppa was evacuated in the middle of the night. The villagers returned at 3:30 a.m. when it was clear there was no danger.

According to the website www.colombopage.com there were two deaths due to traffic accidents in the rush after the evacuation warning was posted. A third person was injured, police said.
