A well-known, Vancouver-based marine biologist is set to speak this weekend as part of the Natural World Lecture Series at the Brackendale Art Gallery (BAG).

Dr. Daniel Pauly, principal investigator for the Sea Around Us Project at the University of British Columbias Fisheries Centre, will speak on Sunday (Jan. 23) at 8 p.m. Admission is by donation.

Pauly, a French citizen, came to B.C. in 1994 to become a professor at the UBC Fisheries Centre. Since 1999, he has been principal investigator for the Sea Around Us Project, which is devoted to the study of the impacts of fisheries on the worlds marine ecoystems. According to Wikipedia, he frequently speaks about how public policy affects marine ecosystems and has spoken out in favour of the establishment of marine reserves.
