The brains behind the über popular mountain biking website Pinkbike are settling in to their new Squamish offices at the south end of Second Avenue.
“So far, so good,” said Pinkbike.com CEO Karl Burkat from the company boardroom Friday afternoon.
It was about a year ago that rumours started to swirl around Squamish that Pinkbike, which gets about 73 million page views a month to its web portal, might be moving its head office to the district.
In December, the rumours were confirmed and by February 1 staff members at the white and gray minimalist office were up and running.
Pinkbike has just over 20 full-time employees, plus more than 100 contributors around the world, according to the company.
Seven or eight people work out of the Squamish building with a few more who commute occasionally to the office from other parts of the Lower Mainland.
So far, the company has hired three full-time local people, according to Burkat.
Finding rental housing in Squamish for the staff proved challenging, so the company bought a house in downtown Squamish to house Karl Burkat and company founder Radek Burkat and for other workers to stay in when they visit the district.
“There wasn’t really any places to rent in Squamish, so we had to buy,” said Radek.
The brothers said they have felt welcomed in the district and enjoy getting out to ride the trails.
“Having all the different people that have the mindset of an adventure lifestyle you get feedback from anything we are working on, feedback you can actually really use because these people are really looking at whatever we are building or doing with that type of mindset so it is very valuable for us to be in that atmosphere,” Radek said.
