RCMP is asking for help in catching the suspect in a disturbing sexual assault and robbery that began at Brennan Park late Thursday night, Aug. 27, and ended several hours later in Burnaby.

Just after midnight on Friday (Aug. 28), a 40-year-old woman was attacked while sleeping in her car at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre parking lot, according to RCMP.

The woman, from out of province, had been on holidays and had stopped to rest in her vehicle before continuing on her vacation.

"She was doing a visit of friends in the province that she knows from different towns and having a tour. She's an outdoor type person and doing hiking and family visits and friend visits," said Cpl Dave Ritchie.

The unknown male forced his way into her vehicle and physically assaulted her before she was driven a short distance away and sexually assaulted in her vehicle.

"[The suspect] took out the window and then he physically assaulted her to get control, and then got control of her and then drove and committed the heinous acts," said Ritchie.

She was held against her will for over four hours while the suspect drove her vehicle, and further assaulted and sexually assaulted her before the suspect fled, leaving her in her car.

"Everything occurred in darkness and the manner in which she was held, she wasn't able to make a lot of identity," said Ritchie.

However, police were able to retain images of the man, which they've sent out to media.

During the crime, the suspect used her bankcard at a Bank of Montreal ATM located at 1460 Main Street North Vancouver. The bank's security monitoring system captured images of the man, who is described as Caucasian, muscular build, 5'8' to 5'11' and wearing a beige, brown hoodie, blue jeans and white ankle socks.

Once the suspect fled, the victim was able to locate a pay phone and call 911 for help in Burnaby.
