A member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is facing a charge of criminal harassment, The Chief has learned.
The accused is Const. Steven E. Small and the matter was the topic of a court hearing in North Vancouver provincial court on Wednesday (Aug. 25), according to court records. From that hearing, another court date was set for Sept. 7.
Inquiries to the Squamish RCMP were responded to by Sgt. John Ward of the RCMP E Division office in Vancouver, who told The Chief that he can't comment on the court matter because it is part of an ongoing criminal investigation.
Ward confirmed that the RCMP currently employs Small.
The Chief contacted Small, but he refused to answer questions.
"I'm on vacation," Small said before abruptly ending his telephone interview with The Chief.
The matter is subject to a ban on publication which prevents The Chief from publishing any details that have been presented in court to date.
As of The Chief's press deadline, the RCMP did not respond to a request for more information. It is not known when Small is due to return to work from his vacation.
