RCMP seek help in manhunt

Briefs from the Squamish RCMP

RCMP is seeking the public's assistant in locating a man who is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for breaching the conditions of his release.

Joshua Kale Lundstrom, whom RCMP Sgt. Steve Wright on Monday (Junee 22) described as "a well-known car thief," was recently released from prison and has already breached at least one condition of his release. He is believed to be in the Sea to Sky corridor, Wright said.

The suspect "gives a Vancouver address but he likes Whistler," Wright said. "He's someone that we don't want in the community."

Lundstrom, 29, is most recognizeable by tattoos around his neck that that reads, "HARDLUCK." If you see Lundstrom, don't approach him, as he has been known to be armed, but phone 911, Wright said.

Arson suspected

On June 22 at 6:40 p.m., police received a call from fire crews of a fire at Porcupine Park off of Pentland Way in the Garibaldi Highlands. A children's play structure was completely destroyed by fire. Police have identified a possible suspect, and the investigation is continuing. Police are asking anyone in the area that may have information or anyone that observed a young male teenager leaving the area on a bicycle to contact our office at 604-892-6100 or Crime Stoppers at 1 800-222-8477.

Marijuana discovered on drunk driver

On June 19 at 2:40 a.m., police checked a 2008 Ford Focus on Government Road near the eagle viewing dike. A 27-year-old male driver displayed symptoms of impairment and failed a roadside screening for alcohol, the driver was issued a 24 hour driving prohibition and his vehicle was towed.

Due to circumstances and for safety, the driver and passenger were given a ride to a nearby convenience store so they could arrange another method of transport home. While they were in the police vehicle, the officer detected a strong odour of marijuana emitting from the two passengers. A search revealed a substantial quantity of packaged marijuana on the driver who was subsequently arrested and released on a promise to appear for possession of a controlled substance and he will appear in court on Aug. 19.

Gas pump knocked over

On June 17 at 1:17 p.m., employees of the Husky Service Station on Garibaldi Way called RCMP to advise that a vehicle had struck one of the fuel pumps. Police attended and determined that a 27-year-old male had backed his 1995 Ford Ranger pick up into the pump island striking and knocking over a gas pump causing an estimated $4,000 damage.

The attending officer issued the driver a violation ticket for reversing unsafely and also arrested the male who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for breach of recognizance. The male was held in custody and transported to North Vancouver Provincial Court.

Drunk driver arrested

On June 20 at 9:16 p.m., a member on patrol intercepted a 2002 Audi traveling at the excessive speed of 140 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Highway 99 near Furry Creek. While the member was closing the distance on the southbound vehicle, it passed two vehicles into the oncoming lane over a double solid line.

The vehicle was stopped near Porteau Cove and the 32-year-old male driver showed signs of impairment. The male was returned to the detachment after registering a fail on a roadside screening device. The male's breath samples were well over the legal limit and he was later released on a promise to appear in court on Aug. 12 to face charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and impaired driving.
