As adaptive athletes from across the globe look to soar to new heights at this year’s Invictus Games, they’ll be joined by Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) jets flying over Whistler next week to mark the event.
Two CF-18 Hornet jets from the 409 Tactical Fighter Squadron and 410 Tactical Fighter Operational Training Squadron out of Cold Lake, Alta. will conduct a flyby on Monday, Feb. 10 at approximately 4:15 p.m. The aircraft will fly over Whistler Olympic Park at an altitude no lower than 500 above the highest obstacle on the route.
In a release, the RCAF said flypasts are “carefully planned and closely controlled for public safety,” and are dependent upon weather and flying conditions.
The Vancouver-Whistler Invictus Games run from Feb. 8 to 16, inviting international wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women to compete in adaptive sport. Whistler is hosting alpine skiing and snowboarding, biathlon, skeleton, and Nordic cross-country skiing.
