There were a number of accidents on the Sea to Sky Highway across the Labour Day long weekend.

The Sea to Sky RCMP is urging all drivers to exercise increased caution on the Sea to Sky Highway following a series of crashes over the Labour Day long weekend.

Officers attended several crashes between Squamish and Whistler, resulting in heavy traffic, significant delays and minor injuries.

“Long weekends typically bring an influx of travellers to our region, and this past weekend was no exception," Sea to Sky RCMP- Squamish Sgt. Dallas Langley said in a press release.

"We saw a substantial increase in traffic, and unfortunately, this also led to multiple collisions, most of which were preventable."

Throughout the weekend, BC Highway Patrol and Sea to Sky RCMP officers did highway patrols and enforcement for road safety.

One of the incidents across the long weekend saw five people taken to hospital on Sept. 1, as a result of a crash on Highway 99 and Conroy Forest Service Road.

The Sea to Sky RCMP- Squamish reminds all drivers to prioritize road safety by driving to the speed limits, maintaining a safe following distance, and avoiding distractions such as cell phones.

"We're grateful that no serious injuries occurred, but these incidents serve as an important reminder for everyone to remain vigilant and cautious while on the road," Sgt. Langley said.

"Your safety and the safety of others depend on it."

Drivers are encouraged to plan their routes ahead of time, allow for extra travel time, and be prepared for possible delays.

The Sea to Sky RCMP also encourages drivers to have patience when travelling along the Sea to Sky Highway, which often experiences congestion during peak travel times.
