Sea to Sky Singers want you to hear the bells this holiday season.

The adult community choir is hosting two shows—titled Hear the Bells—featuring handbell soloist Nikki Evans on Dec. 14 and Dec. 15.

“Handbells have always fascinated me,” said Veronica McPhee, music director for the group, in a release. “They’re more commonly played as choirs with different people playing one to three bells each. Even more impressive to me is watching a handbell soloist play.”

The shows will feature 12 choral pieces that either mention bells in the title or in the lyrics, the release said.

Erik Musseau, a local musician, is set to accompany the choir on piano.

Evans, meanwhile, will chime in with the choir and perform pieces from her own repertoire.

“The peeling of bells is a tradition of the Christmas season—so many Christmas carols mention bells,” McPhee added. “They’re a symbol of the joy that marks the season.”

Audience members will also be invited to sing along with their favourite Christmas carols.

The shows take place at St. John the Divine Anglican Church on Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. and on Dec. 15 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $25 for adults and free for 12 and under. They can be purchased at seatoskysingers.net with limited tickets at the door.
