Squamish Fire Rescue battled blaze that damaged Vallecliffe home on Saturday morning, just weeks from Christmas.

A house fire in Valleycliffe sent one person to hospital for assessment and caused significant damage to the home.

At approximately 6 a.m. Saturday morning, Squamish Fire Rescue members were on the scene of the house fire on Myrtlewood Crescent.

"The home sustained significant damage and one person was taken to Squamish General Hospital for assessment," a spokesperson for the District said in an email to The Squamish Chief.

A member of the family posted to social media Saturday that everyone was OK, but the family cat was missing.

The cat was later found safe, according to an updated post.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation, according to Squamish Fire Rescue.

The Squamish Chief has reached out to a member of the family. We will update this story if they want to comment.
