Snow White comes to Eagle Eye

Members of the Howe Sound Dance Academy are ready for their year end recital of Snow White and performances will be held in the Eagle Eye Theatre tonight (June 17) at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday (June 18) at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Performances will also be held on June 24 and 25 at the same time. It will be a dance event featuring ballet, jazz, hip hop and tap with the approximate 240 students from Squamish and Whistler ranging in age from three to 18 years. Tickets are available at Dansez La Vie and at the Eagle Run Coffee Shop.



The Squamish Waterfront is the location of the Squamish Beach Fest and it will be held this Sunday (June 19) form 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Drive to the end of Cleveland Avenue, turn left then take a right at the Squamish Yacht Club and follow the signs to the Beach Fest. Celebrate a day with Dad at the beach and enjoy entertainment for the whole family. The activities include a sand castle contest, volleyball, lots of kids' activities and food! There is also a bike-decorating contest for the junior "Mini Mettle" finalists with the Test of Metal.



Tomorrow (June 18) is customer appreciation day at Pearl's 2nds on Second Avenue. There will be a bag sale, door prizes and refreshments. The day is hosted by Pearl's 2nds and Howe Sound Women's Centre to thank the customers for all their support.



On Sunday (June 19) the Squamish Pirates Swim Club is hosting its annual Swim Meet at the Aquatic Centre. There will be six teams competing including teams from North Vancouver and Burnaby. The Pirates Swim Club has 40 members ranging in ages from six years to 17. The young people would appreciate your support.



The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a garage sale at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 2449 The Boulevard on Saturday, June 25. Donations are welcome and the contact persons are Al Menard at 604-892-3466 and Domenico at 604-898-4522. Proceeds help local community services.

Dr. Stein Hoff and Phil Ellis are Squamish's master beekeepers and they are presenting Bee Happy - Bees and How to Keep Them at the Squamish Public Library on Tuesday (June 21) at 7 p.m. They will talk about the care and management of bees. There will also be an informative video footage and an opportunity to inspect a hive and the necessary implements in a hands-on setting. The B.C. Museum of Mining at Britannia Beach has a special free admission on Father's Day, Sunday (June 19) for dad and one child for the underground tour. Tours will be ongoing from 9:40 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and making an appearance during the day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be Yukon Dan. A special Father's Day cake will be cut and shared at noon.



Our thoughts are with a special lady - Over the Hill columnist Kay Wirachowsky, who has been hospitalized for over a week at Squamish General Hospital. We miss your column Kay and hope each day will find you a little stronger.



The following item is usually in Kay's column. On Monday (June 20) the Women On Wheels cyclists will meet at Shoppers Drug Mart in the Chieftain Mall at 10 a.m. for a ride out to the spit. For more information, please contact Shirley at 604-898-5715.



Those interested in participating in the monthly book discussion at the Squamish Public Library are asked to pick up the book The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. The group will meet on Wednesday, June 29 from 12 noon to 1 p.m.



Tickets are now on sale for the 7th annual Squamish Garden Tour sponsored by the Squamish Gardeners. The tour will take place on Sunday, June 26 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for the self-guided tour. Tickets at $10 each are available at the Squamish Library, Billie's Bouquet, Anna's Attic and at the Garden Centre on Mamquam Road.



The monthly winners for May in the Rotary 200 Club were: Christine and Darryl Craig - $100; Jeff McKenzie - $120; Ann Gawley - $130 and Jim Vanderhook - $150/ The winners in the June draw were: Walt Lucy - $100; Bob Fast - $120; Norma Kindree - $130 and Lorena Turner - $150.

The June birthday gathering at Hilltop House was held on June 15 and belated wishes to Peg Barnfield, Jim Fitzpatrick, Jim Lehman and June Manson.



There will be an official Welcoming Ceremony for the 20 young people from Canada and Uruguay who are part of the Canada World Youth exchange program on Saturday, June 25 around 3:30 p.m. at the Eagles' Coffee Grounds on Government Road. Everyone is welcome to join the festivities including traditional dancers and a salmon barbecue.

A warm welcome to all our visitors who will be at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park to celebrate the return of the famous Thomas the Tank Engine this weekend.
