One motorcyclist is lucky to be alive after being involved in a serious accident on Saturday (July 9).
While the cause of the collision is still under investigation, initial reports suggest the rider collided with a barrier, came off his bike and was struck by another motorcycle, Sgt. Mark McLean told North Shore News by email.
"The rider in question did survive and is stable in hospital; however [he] has extensive injuries," McLean said.
The man was taken away by ambulance in critical condition Saturday afternoon following a "serious collision" involving motorcycles near Lawrence Way on Highway 99.
Southbound traffic was reopened after being closed for over three hours on the Sea to Sky route north of the accident.
West Vancouver police responded and were working to clear the scene.
At the time, WVPD said two motorbikes were involved. Two ambulances made it to the scene through traffic, and RCMP Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service also arrived on the scene.
BC Emergency Health Services said it dispatched two ground unit ambulances to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 99. "Paramedics cared for one patient who was transported to hospital in critical condition," a spokesperson said by email.
As of 6 p.m. that day, DriveBC said the highway was fully open again, but to expect major delays. The highway was originally blocked at around 1:30 p.m.
