The Squamish Nation recently exercised an option to buy a large parcel of land near Porteau Cove and the Nation reportedly plans to put 1,000 homes on the property.
The purchase was part of a land swap negotiated by BC Rail, the provincial government and the Squamish Nation.
The original negotiations took place in the late 1990s.
Published reports indicate that Concord Pacific, the company developing the former Expo '86 lands in Vancouver, will partner with the Squamish Nation to develop the waterfront property.
No formal development applications have been submitted to the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District; however, SLRD staff is aware of the land purchase.
