Squamish RCMP officers paid respects on April 24 to the victims of the Nova Scotia shooting.
At 10 a.m. that day, officers in red serge stood at attention at Stan Clarke Park downtown.
A tartan cloth, police boots, the traditional Mountie hat and a fiddle were placed at the base of the flag.
Among the 22 people who died in the shooting rampage that took place over 13 hours on April 18 and 19 was Nova Scotia Mountie Const. Heidi Stevenson.
“We said a separate prayer for our sister, colleague, friend, and hero,” reads a twitter post from Squamish RCMP.
Stevenson is believed to have rammed the assailant’s vehicle with her car, which prevented him from continuing to take advantage of a replica police vehicle that looked virtually identical to a real one, according to The Canadian Press.
The head of the National Police Federation told CP that this decision probably saved many lives.
