Hundreds gather for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at Junction Park & O'Siyam Pavilion.

Sept. 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which honours the children who never returned home from residential schools and survivors of the institutions.

Environment Canada says today will be sunny, with increasing cloudiness early this evening.

We will see a high of 18 C and a low down to 8 C overnight.

Humidity will hit 98% today, meaning that is the percentage of water vapour in the atmosphere.

Looking ahead

Squamish meteorologist Jason Ross says the ridge of high pressure over the south coast that is making for a beautiful fall day with sunny skies and temperatures near normal today, will flatten out and shift eastward tonight, opening the door to a series of weak fronts on Tuesday and Wednesday.

These will bring increased clouds and a chance for showers. High pressure will rebuild Thursday through Friday with clearing and warming temperatures.

To mark the day, which is also Orange Shirt Day, there’s a Skwxwu7mesh Nation event downtown starting at 12:30 p.m. which will continue for the rest of the afternoon at O'Siyam Pavilion.
