As of Aug. 26, the BC Wildfire Service Coastal Fire Centre and the District of Squamish lifted their bans on Category 1 campfires in the Coastal Fire Centre area, and within the District boundaries.

The following are never allowed in Squamish:

Spit Road closure

With kiting season coming to a close this last weekend, the Squamish Training Berm (Spit Road), will be closed from Sept. 16 to Nov. 15, as Squamish River Watershed crews install a third large fish-friendly box culvert.

"This feature will replace the current undersized culvert, which will improve fish access and allow freshwater to transfer into the central estuary channel from the Squamish River," reads a SRWS post.

The work is part of the Central Estuary Restoration Project.

When is it fall?

Fall begins with the autumnal equinox.

In the Northern Hemisphere that is on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024, at 5:43 a.m.

But what is an equinox, anyway?

"There are only two moments each year when neither pole points toward the sun, and the sun lies directly above Earth’s equator. These moments are the equinoxes," reads www.timeanddate.com.

The March equinox happens sometime between March 19 and 21. The September equinox occurs sometime between Sept. 21 and 24.

In the Northern Hemisphere, the March equinox is also known as the spring or vernal equinox; the September equinox can be called the fall or autumnal equinox.

In the Southern Hemisphere, the names are the other way around."
