Despite some rain, Squamish’s Remembrance Day ceremony drew several hundred attendees.
On Saturday, Nov. 11, hundreds gathered at the cenotaph in Stan Clarke Park for this year’s Remembrance Day ceremony, which honours those who have served or continue to serve in the Canadian military during times of war, conflict and peace.
Near the start of the ceremony, there was some rainfall but shortly thereafter the skies opened up and the sun shone brightly.
The ceremony involved two minutes of silence and reciting the poem In Flanders Fields. Squamish Legion president Russ Robertson also read a list of fallen Squamish military members.
After several wreaths were laid as part of the ceremony, other members of the public also laid wreaths and poppies down at the foot of the cenotaph.
A social gathering followed at the Legion Lounge at 40194 Glenalder Place.
Before the ceremony, the forecast called for total rainfall amounts of 60 to 90 millimetres on Friday before the rain eased on Saturday morning, according to a local meteorologist.
