Stong's Market opens new location in downtown Squamish

Grocery store expands to Squamish, joining Vancouver and North Vancouver locations.

Stong's Market has officially opened its Squamish location.

The grocery retailer opened its doors Wednesday morning (March 13) in the former Zephyr Cafe location at 38078 Cleveland Ave.

Zephyr closed in September.

The store offers hot meals to go, a deli, fresh produce and other grocery items, as well as a selection of flowers, giftware and cards.

“We are excited to be opening our third location as a new concept for Stong’s in the growing community of Squamish,” said Brian Bradley, president of  Stong’s Market, in a news release in September, when the Squamish location was announced.

“We understand the importance of our local communities and becoming an integrated part of the places we call home. With our commitment to supporting local vendors and unique fresh offerings, Squamish is the ideal place for our newest Stong’s Market.”

According to the store's website, Stong's was started by Carson Ross Stong and his brother Joe in Toronto in the early 1890s. In 1931, Carson Stong moved to B.C.

The stores are now fully B.C. owned and operated, the company says.

There are currently two other Stong’s Market locations, on Dunbar Street in Vancouver and Northwoods Plaza in North Vancouver.
