Thieves target Garibaldi, Brackendale

Briefs from the Squamish RCMP

On Sunday (Oct. 17) at 9:31 a.m., a resident reports a theft from an unlocked vehicle overnight on Highlands Way North. A purse, iPod and camera were stolen. There have been several reported theft from locked and unlocked vehicles in the area of Garibaldi Highlands and the Estates as well as Brackendale in the past few days. Police remind residents to remove valuables from their vehicles, ensure they are locked and report any suspicious people or events.

Man raises suspicion

On Monday (Oct. 18) a suspicious male was located in a neighbors garage at 5:15 p.m., on Park Crescent the male described a Caucasian male in mid 30s with short dark hair wearing a dark hoodie and blue jeans was seen carrying a black and silver tool box. Patrols failed to locate the male.

Drunks argue over driving

On Oct. 12 at 11:10 p.m., members on foot patrol observed a vehicle stopping on Cleveland Avenue. An intoxicated 33-year-old male got out and urinated, then dropped and smashed a beer bottle. He and a 22-year-old female then argued over who was more intoxicated, and the female got behind the wheel. She performed a U-turn before being stopped. The male was issued with a roadside prohibition after failing a roadside screening for alcohol. The female was returned to the detachment a registered two readings twice the legal limit and was released on a promise to appear to appear on Dec. 1 to answer to a charge of impaired driving. The vehicle was towed and impounded.

Driver blows through red light

On Sunday (Oct. 17) at 11:05 a.m. police attended a two vehicle collision at Industrial Way and Highway 99. A 2008 Toyota Matrix travelling northbound on Highway 99 struck a 2008 Dodge Ram coming off of Industrial Way onto Highway 99. The 68-year-old driver of the Toyota was issued a violation ticket for failing to stop at a red light. No one was injured in the collision

Bikes stolen

On Sunday (Oct. 17) at 3:57 p.m. owner reports a white Giant 21-speed mountain bike and a light blue adult cruiser bike locked in a carport on the Boulevard both are valued at $2,000 were stolen.

Thieves target mailboxes

On Sunday (Oct. 17) at 1:11 a.m. two males in an older model white station wagon were reported breaking into mailboxes on Furry Creek Drive. West Vancouver police assisted with roadblocks but the suspects were not located. One male is described as a Caucasian male in his 30s, medium build, five foot seven inches wearing a dark toque and light coloured casual clothes. The other male's description was not obtained.

Consensual fight breaks out

On Sunday (Oct. 17) at 1 a.m. members on foot patrol of the Ocean Port Hotel noticed a fight break out between two males who had just left the establishment. The fight was deemed consensual and no assault charges were laid, however they were each served with a violation ticket for being intoxicated in public.

Drunk driver stopped

On Oct. 16 at 2:31 a.m. member on patrol observed a red Dodge Caravan weaving north on Highway 99 from Garibaldi Way. The 38-year-old female driver displayed symptoms of impairment by alcohol and was failed a roadside screening. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the driver was given an immediate 90 day prohibition from driving.

Drunk smashes window

On Oct. 15 at 11:30 p.m. two members on foot patrol of Tantalus Road were advised a male had just smashed a window out of a door near the Wigan Pier restaurant. The 40-year-old male suspect was found to be intoxicated, was arrested and held until sober and issued a violation ticket for being intoxicated in public. He will appear in court to face a charge of public mischief for smashing the window.

Prohibited driver's car impounded

On Oct. 12 at 4:33 p.m. a member on patrol checked a vehicle on Highway 99 near Stawamus Chief Park. The 56-year-old driver was found to be a prohibited driver and was arrested. The vehicle was towed and impounded and the driver was released on a promise to appear in court.

Video captures copper thieves

On Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. an employee reports a break, enter and theft from a BC Hydro yard at mile 22.5 of the Squamish Valley Road. Surveillance video shows two people cutting through the fence and wheeling in an industrial sized torch, which is used to breach a container. The torch is then wheeled back to their vehicle.

The suspects are then seen stealing two medium sized spools of copper wire, one large spool of black insulated copper wire and a ladder. The surveillance tapes are being examined and enhanced to identify the two males and vehicle involved. The estimated value of the wire is $3,000.
