The owner of Fergie's Cafe says the restaurant will be re-opened as soon as possible following a devestating fire early Tuesday morning.
Firefighters were called to the scene on Squamish Valley Road just around 4:45 a.m.
No one was working at the time the fire broke out, according to Fire Chief Bill Stoner, and no one was injured.
He said the fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire.
"We don't know yet, we're going to do an investigation. We're looking into it," he said. "The restaurant portion is a complete loss. The dining area has some smoke damage and water damage but it's otherwise intact."
Stoner said it was fair to assume that the fire began in the kitchen area of the building.
Video captured during the fire show towering smoke and massive flames engulfing the building. By 7 a.m. the flames were out but smoke was still rising from the building as firefighters picked through blackened debris.
Stoner said 35 to 40 fire members responded to the scene. The massive pile of charred wood and metal is now taped off as the fire department continues their investigation.
“While we are devastated, we are so grateful that no one was hurt. Squamish Fire Rescue did an amazing job fighting the blaze and through their efforts may have saved our beloved trailer,” said owner Jessamy Freese in a statement.
“We have an amazing team of people who work for us here at Fergie’s and Sunwolf. We will do everything we can to be back up and running as soon as possible. Right now, we want to thank all of the Emergency Services who raced out here to help, and our wonderful community who have reached out to us in huge numbers with messages of love and support. We are feeling very sad, but have never been more proud to call Squamish our home.”
