Whistler mayor moving to Hawaii
Hugh O'Reilly, the current mayor of the Resort Municipality of Whistler, announced Wednesday he will not seek re-election in the municipal election on Nov. 19.
O'Reilly also announced he accepted a job in Hawaii and will move there at the end of this month to sell real estate for a division of Intrawest, the parent company to Whistler/Blackcomb.
This decision ends O'Reilly's 17-year career in Whistler politics. He was mayor for the past nine years and before that he served eight years as a councillor.
After O'Reilly delivered his news Councillor Nick Davies told reporters he intended to seek the job of mayor in Whistler.
Highway delays
There are no scheduled construction delays on Highway 99 this weekend but starting at 11 p.m. on Sunday (Aug. 7) drivers can expect delays of up to 15 minutes while crews prepare to begin overnight work between Sunset Beach and Kelvin Grove Monday (Aug. 8). The real work begins at 3 a.m. with travel delays expected to last up to 30 minutes in length until 6 a.m.
Through the rest of Monday, then Tuesday through Thursday drivers should expect delays of up to 30 minutes from 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and then from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning.
Outside of the designated delay periods, expect possible delays of up to 15 minutes in the construction zone.
