Winter parking restrictions will soon hit some streets in Squamish.
From Dec. 1 to March 1, there will be parking restrictions on certain streets in place throughout town indicated by signage.
These restrictions were introduced in 2022 as a method to help with snow plowing and emergency vehicles.
The District of Squamish wrote to The Squamish Chief in an email, “Staff reviewed the policy at the end of last winter and determined that based on feedback received and the overall improvement of snow clearing efforts, that the program was successful.”
For this upcoming winter season, the restrictions take place on the following streets based on information from the District’s website:
- Hemlock Avenue, no parking on south side from Cedar Drive to Spruce Drive
- Chestnut Avenue, no parking on south side from Cedar Drive to Spruce Drive
- Fir Street, no parking on south side from Pine Drive to Spruce Drive
- Third Avenue, no parking on west side from Pemberton Avenue to Vancouver Street
- Fourth Avenue, no parking on west side from Winnipeg Street to Main Street
- Fifth Avenue, no parking on west side from Winnipeg Street to Main Street
- Sixth Avenue, no parking on west side for the entire street
- Eaglewind Boulevard, no perimeter parking near the roundabout at the end of Pemberton Avenue
- Edgewater Drive, no parking on east side from Government Road to Edgewater Crescent
- Edgewater Crescent, no parking on the outside perimeter of the crescent for the entire street.
- No Name Road, no parking on east side for the entire street
- Brother Place, no parking on the south side for the entire street
- Britannia Avenue, no parking on west side from Magee Street to Buckley Avenue
- Harris Road, no parking on south side from Government Road to the cul-de-sac
- Hope Road, no parking on east side from Depot Road to Axen Road
- Diamond Road, no parking on north side from Tantalus Road to Garibaldi Way
- Diamond Head Road, no parking on west side from Garibaldi Way to Mamquam Road
- Glacier View Drive, no parking on the outside perimeter for the entire street
The District’s website noted that bylaw officers will focus on “education and provide warnings” to those drivers parked in a restricted area.
“However, vehicles parking on the No Parking side of the street may be ticketed and towed at any time to ensure community safety. The fine for impeding snow removal is $250,” the website continued.
