Woodstove owners urged to make the switch

The Sea to Sky Clean Air Society is urging Sea to Sky Corridor residents to trade in their old woodstoves for newer, more efficient models.

Until Dec. 25, residents with old, uncertified (pre-1994) woodstoves are able to exchange their appliances for new EPA/CSA-certified wood, pellet or natural gas heating appliances and receive a $250 rebate.

"B.C.'s woodstove exchange program was implemented to encourage residents to change out old, smoky woodstoves to low-emission appliances such as clean-burning woodstoves that are EPA- and CSA-approved," Zack Dejong, the society's woodstove exchange co-ordinator, said in a statement. "The intention of the program is to improve air quality and fuel efficiency by having the province collaborate as a whole to address the problem."

A limited numbers of rebates are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For information contact DeJong at [email protected]
