The Squamish Public Library will host a free workshop 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday (March 17) on preparing a community plan for early childhood development.
Keynote speaker Alison Sturton, Children's Librarian and Mother Goose co-facilitator will present Every Child Ready to Read.
Sturton will introduce the six basic skills and ways to adapt activities and books for early talkers (0-2 year-olds), talkers (2 and 3 year-olds) and pre-readers (4 and 5 year-olds).
Joanne Schroeder, Provincial Advisor for Children First Learning Sites will present an early childhood education mapping workshop.
The BC Ministry of Development has established Make Children First Learning Sites in three communities in B.C. The project targets children who are at risk of poor social, emotional, cognitive and physical outcomes. Schroeder provide an overview of the so-called early development instrument and how it relates to community early childhood development plan.The event begins with fruit, muffins and refreshments at 9 a.m.
