Capilano Blues win bronze at national championship held in Squamish

Capilano ends the nationals with a 3-1 record, more wins than they had in a regular season which consisted of two wins, six draws and four losses.

On Saturday, for the first time in more than two decades, Capilano University Blues players got to wear a medal around their necks at the CCAA Women's Soccer Championships.

The Blues were all smiles after winning a bronze medal in the finals at Squamish's CapU campus on Nov. 9, with a 1-0 win over PACWEST's Vancouver Island University.

Like on Friday, against the Seneca College Sting, an early goal by Mya Fraser proved to be the game-winner.

"It was the final game of a sterling five-year Blues career for Fraser," reads a news release from CapU.

Goalie Amaya Salvino had her third "clean sheet win" in a row.

According to the release, this bronze is the first medal for Blues women’s soccer since 2001, when the team won gold in Medicine Hat.

Capilano ends the nationals with a 3-1 record, more wins than they had in a regular season which consisted of two wins, six draws and four losses.

"All the Blues goals in the tournament were scored by defenders, each a header off a set piece delivered by Michaela Salvino. Erika Di Lorenzo scored in Thursday's win over[ Mount Saint Vincent Athletics Mystics], and Fraser scored in each of the last two games," the release states.

The players of the game were Isabella Bolognese for Capilano and Mya Creed, for VIU.
