Squamish’s U10 flag football team, the Colts, went undefeated this year in the GSL North Shore Football League.
The team was able to attract enough players to compose an all-Squamish team for offensive coach Will McKeen and defensive coach Brent Di Marzo.
Most of the team of 11 boys and one girl has been playing together for two years. Last year, the team went undefeated until the playoffs but lost the final game.
This year was the year for redemption, as the team won all 10 regular season games and three playoff games, winning the championship game at Carson Graham School on Nov. 29.
Quarterback Beynon McKeen ran for five touchdowns in the championship to cement his title of MVP of the Flag Football League. Other honourable mentions this season went to back-up quarterback Charlie Smith for pulling out a win when Mckeen was not able to attend a game.
The team’s top flaggers and receivers included Hunter Di Marzo, Luke Procter, Mackie Hanwell and Tristan Savauge, as well as the defensive line of Kendra Thompson, John Newman, James Newman, Brayden Bir, Kai Nickle and Aaron Lalli.
The team also attended the 2015 GSL Awards Banquet at the Chief Joe Matthias Centre on Capilano Road in North Vancouver on Dec. 6.
