During his playing days, the new men's soccer head coach at Quest University was known for his high-energy, high-intensity style.
Alexander Elliott has signed on to take the reins of the Quest Kermodes men's soccer program. Athletic director Sean Shook said he expects Elliott to shake things up with a program that has not recorded a victory in more than two years.
We had a lot of great candidates but Alex is a very upbeat and energetic guy that I think will really get the guys going and rally them, Shook said. I think the guys are super excited about the energy he's brought so far and he played at Portland University, so he understands what the collegiate level is like.
Elliott attended high school in Vancouver and earned the Vancouver Metro Soccer League's golden boot for most goals scored at the age of 16. He also played on the U15, U17 and U20 Canadian national teams. He went on to play three years of NCAA soccer at the University of Portland and scored 21 goals in 52 matches before turning pro and signing with German team Sportfreunde Siegen in 2008.
He then joined the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2010 before returning to Germany until 2012, when he was forced to retire from professional soccer because of multiple concussions.
Since retiring, Elliott has returned to Vancouver and has served as a youth coach with North Vancouver FC, an assistant coach with the Kwantlen Eagles and the academy director at both Fusion FC and Vancouver FC.
Him being a Vancouver kid is a nice thing too, Shook said. He wanted to come back home and build something special and that's what we're really excited about.
