One to watch: Squamish runner Eilidh Lennon wins bronze at nationals

Lennon shines with a bronze medal at Canadian Indoor Nationals, aiming for university track stardom.

Don't blink or you will miss her whiz by.

Squamish runner Eilidh Lennon, a Grade 11 student at Howe Sound Secondary, snagged a bronze medal in the Canadian Indoor Nationals Track event in Toronto last weekend in the U18 3,000 metre race.

In an email exchange with The Squamish Chief through her dad, Chris Lennon, Eilidh said she has been interested in track and cross-country since grade school, but it was always just one of the many sports she competed in.

She would usually make it to provincial track competitions, but only somewhere between Grade 9 and Grade 10 did she realize it was one of her best sports.

She joined the Vancouver Thunderbirds Track Club and started competing in broader competitions and training under the direction of endurance coach Cindy Crowther.

Eilidh trains with the team at UBC on the weekends and with local coach Scott Maguire, who works with her to implement Crowther's workouts locally throughout the week.

Her next competition is at the UBC Open this weekend, marking the start of the outdoor racing season.

Her main focus for the spring is the outdoor high school competitions and possibly nationals in Ottawa at the end of July.

Her longer-term goals with running are to run at the varsity level at a university in Canada. While racing last weekend in Ontario, she visited with a number of Ontario and Maritimes coaches who are recruiting her for their varsity teams in 2026.

Asked what her running dreams are, Eilidh said, “To run and compete at the university level.”
