Police cases from March 31 to April 6

Lives saved after overdose

Police say that two people had their lives saved after they overdosed on drugs.

A young girl called 911 for help, and a neighbour came to assist and gave CPR until first responders arrived, RCMP say.

Police administered Narcan to each person, while paramedics and firefighters provided first aid and transported the pair to hospital.

They were later released.

 Anyone missing a phone?

A person turned in an iPhone X that was found on Mamquam Road and Highlands Way North on April 6.

RCMP say they’ll keep the phone for 90 days.

If no one claims it by then, it’ll be disposed of.

Texting fraud

Fraudsters allegedly attempted to scam a local by using a text to trick her into giving up personal information.

On April 2, the local received a text telling her that she needed to update her social insurance number and banking information, police say.

After giving the information, she was told by her bank of a pending e-transfer for a large sum of money, officers say.

RCMP say she contacted the bank to stop the transfer and reported the incident.

In these types of incidents, police recommend contacting Equifax or Trans Union, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Agency, and RCMP to prevent future frauds.

RCMP patrols continue in COVID era

Police service levels haven’t changed since COVID-19 closures swept through town.

The RCMP detachment has been closed to the public, but many services remain available. Contact the detachment at 604.892.6100 to speak with a staff member for more information.

April is auto crime enforcement month

Police say there’s increased risk of theft now that people are more likely to park their cars for days at a time

RCMP are asking the public to join in with IMPACT and ICBC for the ‘9 p.m. Routine,’ This gets people in the habit of checking their cars each night at 9 p.m. to ensure it is safe and secure.
