BC Hydro says about 1,900 customers in Squamish were impacted by a power outage just before dinnertime on Sunday.
The outage, which mostly impacted the downtown area, was likely a result of high winds causing a tree branch to fall on a line, BC Hydro spokesperson Kevin Aquino told The Chief.
"We weren't able to find any damage to the line," he said.
Crews were able to get power back on in about three hours, he said.
Some customers noted that parts of their complex were on while the other half was out and that is likely the result of switching to get some customers on sooner rather than later.
"We do have different circuits that feed into different lines. When we do some switching, we will switch some people or some customers onto a different line to see if that will hold, just so that we get the power back quicker. That could have been the case last night."
Other residents just experienced a power flicker, not a full outage.
"Once a branch lays, depending on how heavy it is, onto a line, it could take out power for an entire circuit or it could just make it flicker," he said, adding that is why they suspect the branch just flew off after it fell on the line.
There was also a planned outage Monday morning that impacted 17 customers for about 25 minutes in the 37800-block of 3rd Avenue, he said.
"For our crews to do some work in the area," Aquino said.
