OWEN SOUND, Ont. — The Sarnia Sting are getting hot at the right time of the Ontario Hockey League season.
With nine wins and a shootout loss in their past 10 games, the Sting (39-17-5-4) have rocketed up the Western Conference standings with playoffs approaching.
And, after knocking off the host Owen Sound Attack 6-1 in the lone OHL game on Tuesday's schedule, the Sting are only one point behind the second-place London Knights and three behind the conference-leading Windsor Spitfires.
Sandis Vilmanis and Ty Voit each scored twice for the Sting in Owen Sound, while Marko Sikic and Brenden Anderson notched singles. Luca Del Bel Belluz chipped in with two assists.
Deni Goure, with his 30th of the season, scored for the Attack (31-27-6-1), who trailed 3-1 after the first period and 5-1 heading into the third. The Sting outshot the Attack 41-29.
POKE CHECKS: There are three games in the OHL on Wednesday. The Kitchener Rangers visit the Erie Otters, the Kingston Frontenacs entertain the Oshawa Generals, and the Guelph Storm visit the Windsor Spitfires.
