EDITOR,
My concerns and comments sadly come after a bike tragedy during the Ride to Conquer Cancer this past weekend. A 16-year-old boy from Victoria fell from his bike and was hit and killed during the event in Washington State.
Each year my kids, my trusty neighbour and I stand and cheer for each and every rider that comes down our street in the Test of Metal, rain or shine. We support the incredible dedication the riders and volunteers put forth each year.
This year, I noticed that riders were coming dangerously close to the sidelines and it was quite scary. I had to several times keep my own kids from being hit as well as many young children walking behind their parents.
Can't the riders we support move a little closer to the middle of the road?
Albeit the devastating loss of the rider in Victoria was hit by a slow-moving vehicle, a fast-moving bike could cause extreme damage to children and adults alike.
