I am a homeowner in your riding and I am writing to express my concerns regarding Bill C-38.
Sections of the proposed act appear to be a direct attack on the Canadian environment, our natural heritage. In particular, I am concerned about the proposed changes to the Fisheries Act, Species at Risk Act and the Environmental Assessment Act. It is my belief that these proposed changes are being pushed through the House of Commons in order to expedite the Northern Gateway project. These proposed changes will not benefit voters and citizens in your riding, nor will the building of more pipelines through British Columbia. We have so much to lose.
I am also concerned about the manner in which these proposed changes have been introduced. I am completely confused as to why environmental legislative changes are being introduced through a budget bill. As a Canadian, I am proud to live in a democracy, where we have freedom of speech and assembly, government legislation is transparent, and consultation and debate are welcomed. Bill C-38 falls far short of my understanding of what a democracy is.
I am writing to ask how you, as a British Columbian, are planning to serve the needs of the British Columbians who live in your riding, with regards to Bill C-38?
