Farmers' Market set for winter finale

Tomorrow (April 9) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. will be the last Squamish Farmers' Market held in the CN Roundhouse and Conference Centre at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park for this season.

Tomorrow (April 9) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. will be the last Squamish Farmers' Market held in the CN Roundhouse and Conference Centre at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park for this season. On Saturday, May 14, the Farmers' Market will open in its usual location on Cleveland Avenue and each Saturday until October. The Squamish Environmental Society will meet at 7 a.m. (note new time) on Sunday (April 10) at the Howe Sound Inn and Brew Pub for the monthly bird count. The many migrating birds the group will be looking for include mountain blue birds and different types of warblers. Call Judith at (604) 892-3340 for more information.

The Squamish Public Library and Quest University lecture series continues on Thursday (April 14) from 7 to 8 p.m. in the library with guest Dr. Brian Burge-Hendrix speaking on "Cats and Dogs: A Moral Question."

You are invited to a Spa Party at 42060 Birken Rd. in Brackendale tomorrow (April 9) starting at 4:30 p.m. that includes Reiki sessions, tarot readings, palmistry and reflexology. There will also be a silent auction with some great items on display. All funds from this event will go to help Keenan Cartwright get to soccer camp in Italy. The Squamish Trails Society will have its annual general meeting on Thursday (April 14) at 7 p.m. in the Squamish Arts Council building (across from the August Jack Motel). Members and anyone interested are invited to attend. The membership fees are: individual $10, family $20 and groups $30.

Anyone facing the difficult job of caregiving for aged loved ones needs to know there is support for you in the Caregiver Support Group. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at the Squamish Seniors Centre at 1201 Village Green Way. Between Shifts Theatre is back in business again preparing for "A Night of Comedy" with one-act plays hitting the stage on June 9 to 11 and June 16 to 18. Auditions will be held in the Sea to Sky Hotel on Sunday (April 10) at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Tuesday (April 12).

When attending the Farmers' Market tomorrow, please take time to visit the Squamish Seniors Centre display including photos, programs offered and the many volunteer opportunities available at the new centre. Memberships are available to those 50 years and up. The Tower Clock Café offers a delicious menu Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for all ages.

A program of interest to seniors will be held at the Seniors Centre on Wednesday (April 13) at 1 p.m. and it is entitled "Frauds and Scams." Representatives from the B.C. Centre for Elder Advocacy Support will be in attendance.

St. Joseph's Thrift Shop has been open on Cleveland Avenue for more than 40 years and it is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. When spring cleaning, donations of clothing for adults and children along with shoes, boots and small household items would be appreciated. The Thrift Shop is a lifeline for many people in Squamish.
