Father's Day fun at Mine Museum

A family fun event is planned at the Britannia Mine Museum on Father's Day, Sunday (June 19). It will also be the grand opening of the new Family Play Area and includes sack races, three-legged races, tug-of-war, balloon twisters and more.

A special guest will be Yukon Dan, who will help you to do some gold panning. A concession stand in the old assay building will satisfy your hunger. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. but the main events will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Regular admissions rates apply.

The Squamish Gardeners will meet at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park on Monday (June 20) at 6:45 p.m. Alana from Billie's Bouquet will demonstrate how to use garden flowers in an arrangement. The 2011 Garden Tour committee will provide final details about the tour that takes place on Sunday (June 26).

Registrations are now being taken at the Seniors Centre for cardio fit, chair fit, sit and stand aerobics and yoga. Lawn bowling takes place each Tuesday at 10 a.m. and Thursdays at 1 p.m. Pickle ball is a cross between badminton and tennis, and is held at the centre on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. Mark your calendars for Hot Dog Day on Thursday (June 30) at noon.

A Chants and Drums Workshop for Women entitled Connecting with Your Higher Self will be held on Thursday (June 30) from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Howe Sound Women's Centre. The workshop facilitator will be MJ Vermette. The minimum suggested donation is $10 each.

The Royal Canadian Legion will celebrate its 85th anniversary on Saturday (June 25) and our local Legion Diamond Head Branch #277 will have special celebrations on that day. The day will include a family breakfast, plant, book and puzzle sale. At 11 a.m. you are invited to the Canadian flag signing booth to sign a flag that will be sent to the troops in Afghanistan. Much more is planned on this special anniversary so please stay tuned!

The 2011 Squamish Garden Tour will happen on Sunday, June 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets for the self-guided tour are $15 and may be obtained at the Squamish Library, Anna's Attic, the Adventure Centre, Garibaldi Nurseries and the Village Green Garden Centre.

This is the last weekend to take in a Night of Comedy as presented by Between Shifts Theatre at the Brackendale Art Gallery (BAG). Performances are at 8 p.m. tonight (June 17) and Saturday (June 18), and tickets at $15 are available at the BAG, the Adventure Centre and Billie's Bouquet.

Tonight (June 17) at 7:30 p.m. and tomorrow (June 18) at 2 p.m. are the last dates to see many dancers showcase their talents. Tickets are available at the Village Green Garden Centre at $18 for adults and $15 for students.

The Buckle Up Bear Car Seat Safety check and Family Fun Day will be held at the Squamish Adventure Centre tomorrow (June 18) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It includes kids' activities, a barbecue and more.

On Monday (June 20), the WOW group will meet at Canadian Tire at 10 a.m. They will be riding via Tantalus to Alice Lake using the Highway 99 trail north of Depot Road. Pack a lunch.
