This year, the World Day of Prayer service in our community will be hosted by St. John's Anglican Church at 1930 Diamond Rd. and it will start at 2 p.m. on Friday (March 2). The service was written by the women of Malaysia for the Women's Inter Church Committee and the theme is Let Justice Prevail. The Women's International Church Council of Canada will be the recipient of the offering. Everyone is invited to this inter-denominational service and a time of fellowship and refreshments are also planned.
The Howe Sound Women's Centre Society's Multicultural Outreach Services is presenting Afternoon Tea on Wednesdays (Feb. 29 and March 7) from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the centre at 38021 Third Ave. A variety of topics may include community resources, job skills, health and more. A popular place to meet friends and neighbours is at the Squamish Farmers' Market in the CN Roundhouse and Convention Centre at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park. The next market is planned on Sunday (Feb. 26) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and it is a great place to pick up fresh produce and local meats as well as explore tables filled with jewelry, pottery, paintings and more.

Freedom to Read Week has been designated from Feb. 25 to March 3. Did you know that even in Canada, a free country by world standards, books and magazines are banned at the border? Books are removed from the shelves in Canadian libraries, schools and bookstores every day. Most of these stores don't make headlines, but they affect the right of Canadians to decide for themselves what they wish to read.
The Bereavement Walking Program has resumed and it is for anyone who would like to check with others through walking and talking. The group meets at the Adventure Centre each Wednesday for a 10 a.m. start. Later, if you choose you can join others for coffee at the centre.
