The outdoor public gym at Brennan Park was lamented in a 2014 news article as being completely unused and a waste of public money.
It’s a comprehensive collection of exercise equipment to suit all adult abilities and levels of fitness.
Ironically, I found it because of the article bemoaning its lack of use.
In Australia, public outdoor exercise equipment installations are common. They are equally seldom used, even though our weather generally allows year-round use. For those of us who do use them, they are an absolute gift.
My chiselled Adonis looks faded about half a century ago. Commercial gyms’ general stock in trade often has very little to do with joie de vivre.
Your district seems to run a gamut of programs for all ages; there seems to be very little for someone who wants to exercise at their own pace, by themselves, not part of a class or an ‘experience’.
You may be much like me. Pretty fit, engaged in your world and find traditional gyms a little off-putting.
Outdoor public gyms are our lifeline. The most common complaint is that children play on equipment designed for adults. The solution is simple: ask the youngsters if you can use the equipment for a little bit and get them to count your reps.
Squamish District’s official publications don’t seem to mention the public outdoor equipment as part of any program at all.
I’m happy to be corrected.
The Brennan Park Outdoor Gym can be accessed anytime and provides a good spectrum of exercise equipment. It’s the most exclusive gym in Squamish. You don’t need to join a ‘club,’ you exercise at your own pace. You chat with great people who are just as relaxed and fit as you are.
And it’s absolutely free.
