Whatever you do this weekend, make sure it includes attending he 18th annual Brackendale Fall Fair at the Farmers' Institute Park on Government Road in Brackendale on Saturday (Sept. 8) with the gates open at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are more vendors this year and a great selection of wares will be on display. A fall fair naturally includes farm animals, hay rides, a fine selection of entertainment as lined up by Cam Salay and concession stands to please every palate.
The exhibitor tents show the real talent of this valley and this year the displays will not disappoint. Exhibitors are reminded that all items must be tagged before taking them to the fair grounds on Friday night for judging.
The Squamish Sikh Society invites Squamish residents in need of eye examinations to participate in a free eye clinic provided in partnership with Canadian Eyesight Global. This Thursday (Sept. 6) from 5 to 7 p.m. the Britannia Mine Museum invites the public to the closing reception of the acclaimed MINeD Art Exhibit (on until Sept. 16). This is a series of metal sculptures created by artist Margie McDonald and curated by Krisztina Egyed. Admission to this reception is free of charge.
The Squamish Environmental Society will hold its monthly bird count on Sunday (Sept. 9) with participants meeting at the Howe Sound Inn and Brew Pub at 7 a.m. All ages are welcome to participate and members said it would be great to have a few younger people to get involved as well. They are heading for the stage again in November and a casting call by Between Shifts Theatre will be held for the production Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure by Stephen Dietz tonight (Sept. 6) from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday (Sept. 9) from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Sea to Sky Hotel. The casting is for male actors ages 25 to 50 and one other male to play multiple smaller roles and one female aged 25 to 35. The chosen will have rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting Tuesday (Sept. 11).
