EDITOR,
On Tuesday, Aug. 6, a group of seniors from Squamish were headed off to West Vancouver on a rented mini-bus from a private carrier. We do not have a bus of our own to use at the Seniors Centre and I feel it is a bit of a disgrace. I realize seniors are the minority group in this town, but we are still taxpayers and voters nonetheless.
We left the Seniors Centre at 10 a.m. and proceeded down the highway. Near Windy Point we blew a tire in the rear of the mini-bus. Michelle, our driver, took very good care to limp our bus to the nearest pullout. She immediately phoned for help and approximately three hours later our bus was repaired and back in business. There was no washroom, water or food for any of us, including those with health concerns. By the way, there was no spare tire or repair kit on this rental. Deciding it was too late and exhausting to go on, we opted to return, some to Squamish and some to Britannia Beach.
Now, do you not think that seniors should somehow have better treatment from this municipality to go on outings and not have to sit around waiting for time to pass? We need to work together to ensure a better and more secure future for all our citizens young and old and to do this, we need all levels of government, our corporate sector and individual citizens to care and share their time, talents and treasures with us for a better community.
Many thanks to Michelle for your help and care. By the way, I have lived here for more than 50 years and am a retired School District 48 employee.
