As The Canadian Encyclopedia notes, "voters tend to not reward parties in power when the economy is doing well. But when economic disaster strikes, voters tend to punish the party in government."

With a federal election slated for next fall, at the latest, how people are doing economically, will be one of the many factors that sway votes toward one party or the other.

As The Canadian Encyclopedia notes, "voters tend to not reward parties in power when the economy is doing well. But when economic disaster strikes, voters tend to punish the party in government."

So, we set out to find out how folks feel about the current state of their personal affairs.

The Squamish Chief polled 209 readers and asked the question: Are you financially better off this year than last year?

The poll ran from 11/28/2024 to 12/4/2024. Of the 209 votes, we can determine that 96 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:

No 38.54% local, 45.93% total
About the same 31.25% local, 24.88% total
  Local   Total

Results are based on an online study of adult Squamish Chief readers that are located in Squamish. The margin of error - which measures sample variability - is +/- 6.74%, 19 times out of 20.

The Squamish Chief uses a variety of techniques to capture data, detect and prevent fraudulent votes, detect and prevent robots, and filter out non-local and duplicate votes.
