Squamish poll: Most respondents happy to give and get a thrifted Christmas gift

The Squamish Chief polled 296 readers and asked the question: Would you feel comfortable giving or receiving a thrifted gift for Christmas?

With several great thrift stores in Squamish, it is no surprise thrifting is popular here.

It is also not a passion unique to our district, or even province. 

A recent survey by Savers Value Village, Inc., the largest for-profit thrift operator in the U.S. and Canada, found that nearly 90% of North American consumers have engaged with a thrift store through shopping, donating, or both.

Nearly one in three people surveyed have thrifted in the past year, and more than 40% of Gen Z are thrifters.

But we wondered if that affection for getting a good, sustainable bargain extended to gifting.

The Squamish Chief polled 296 readers and asked the question: Would you feel comfortable giving or receiving a thrifted gift for Christmas?

More than 45 % of locals who took our poll said they would.

The poll ran from 12/12/2024 to 12/26/2024. Of the 296 votes, we can determine that 108 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:

Results are based on an online study of adult Squamish Chief readers that are located in Squamish. The margin of error - which measures sample variability - is +/- 5.65%, 19 times out of 20.
