Sticks and Stones honoured

As we head into fall, it seems it is a time to celebrate the quality of workmanship found in Squamish once again... Congratulations to Yves St.

As we head into fall, it seems it is a time to celebrate the quality of workmanship found in Squamish once again...

Congratulations to Yves St. Hilaire and Roland Benesocky, owners of Sticks and Stones Furniture, for being awarded the Western Living 2013 Designers of the Year Ones to Watch Furniture Award. Sticks and Stones opened in 2010 and Yves and Roland have been blending wood and concrete to create pieces that are at once functional, durable and beautiful ever since. They skilfully blend both mediums to create a perfect marriage of the two, creating furniture that can be passed down from generation to generation. Check out their website at www.sticks-and-stones.ca to see what they create

Congratulations to Matt and Janelle Lucas, of Lucas Teas for celebrating two successful years in business! Join them on Saturday (Sept. 21) at 38028 Cleveland Ave. to celebrate. Enjoy goodies and a great sale on all day long!

More congrats on turning two goes to Squamish's own not-for-profit used building supplies centre, Squamish ReBuild. Join them Saturday (Sept. 21) for cake, demos, lots of fun and a big sale too. You will be amazed what you can find there

Exciting times at the Sea to Sky Gondola as the progress continued in August with trail building at the summit, trail bridges being built with some of them being flown into location. Fabrication is underway on the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge and the construction crew will be on site over the next few weeks for the installation. The foundation is now complete for the Summit Lodge and, last but not least, work on the viewing platforms has been started. The Panorama Trail viewing platform - called the Chief Overlook - is a cantilevered platform hanging out over hundreds of feet of pure air! It will provide stunning views of the summit of the Chief, Howe Sound, the upper Stawamus River valley, Diamond Head and much more.

Also, please join me in congratulating Sue Dixon, and welcoming her to Squamish! The Sea to Sky Gondola recently announced her appointment to the senior position of mountain operations manager. Sue was the successful candidate picked from an excellent group of applicants for the position.

Sue has an extensive 25-year background in resort and mountain operations, with the most recent being with Whistler Blackcomb and Grouse Mountain resorts. Sue is a current member of the North Shore Emergency Management Team, the WorkSafe BC/go2 Technical Advisory Committee and the B.C. Safety Authority Technical Advisory Committee (Technical Ropeways)

Last, but not least, please join me and the entire Chief staff in wishing Junko and Nobu, owners of Sushi Goemon, best wishes for speedy recovery. I am so sad to say, they were involved in a serious head-on collision on the Highway 99 on Sunday evening, leaving Nobu with a broken sternum. They thank everyone for their well wishes and support and appreciate everyone's kindness, as well as your understanding that the restaurant was closed for a couple of days. Check their Facebook page for updates.
