The main fundraiser for the Squamish SPCA is the annual Paws for a Cause and Walk and it will be held at the O'Siyam Pavilion area on Cleveland Avenue on Saturday (Sept. 14) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you haven't already, you can register for the walk at 11 a.m. The day includes dog agility contests, games, vendors, silent auction, prizes and barbecue. Along with dogs and cats, the SPCA also takes in lizards, rabbits, rats and small rodents. All funds raised stay in our community.
The third annual Shoreline Cleanup in the Squamish Estuary takes place on Wednesday (Sept. 18) from 4 to 6 p.m. and participants are asked to meet at the O'Siyam Pavilion. A volunteer appreciation barbecue will follow. To register, call Erin Yeo at (604) 892-3511 ext 301 for more information.

The last day to register for the Family to Family Course, an intense 12-week education course for families dealing with serious mental illness, is Tuesday (Sept. 17). O'Siyam Pavilion Park in downtown Squamish is the site for the first Squamish Idol contest sponsored by the District of Squamish. It will be held on Saturday (Sept. 14) from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and the winner will take home a $500 cash prize. This event is co-sponsored by the Squamish Academy of Music and the Howe Sound Performing Arts Association.
The Squamish Public Library and Quest University series continues on Thursday (Sept. 19) at 6:30 p.m. when Richard Hoshino will present Two Problem-Solving Strategies for Mathematics and for Life.

The West Coast Railway Heritage Park is hosting "Mini Days" this Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 14 and 15). Guests will have a chance to ride in a speeder, on a pump car and special engines on the mini-rail train and enjoy other mini-exhibits and vendors. Tickets are $5 and include full park access. On Saturday (Sept. 21) the fifth annual fundraiser Walk a Mile in Her Shoes will be held. It is sponsored by the Howe Sound Women's Centre and those fellows who have signed up will don bright red high heels and walk close to a mile for this worthy cause. It is held to draw attention to women in abusive situations and children who also suffer. The Squamish Food Bank will open its doors on Wednesday (Sept. 18) for grocery distribution from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Alano Club on Third Avenue. Residents are reminded of the B.C.
