'Getting evicted': After over 25 years in Mount Pleasant, a local independent bookstore is getting booted out of their shop

The business has to shut down its only brick-and-mortar location to make way for redevelopment

Lucky's location at 3972 Main St in Vancouver will be closing soon.

A sign outside of Lucky's Comics in Mount Pleasant alerts passers-by to the future of the store in two simple words: "Getting Evicted."

A little sad face after is a giveaway about how management feels about it.

On Twitter the business owners go into more depth; having been on the block (their current address is 3972 Main St.) for more than 25 years, the store needs to find a new home for their massive collection of books, comics, graphic novels, and more.

"The building we’re in was sold a while back. We’ve been waiting for years to find out when the tear down would start. Lucky’s and south to the corner of the block is coming down to make room for…you know, a thing like all the other things," they write on Twitter.

Specifically, a 60-unit apartment building is planned, with new commercial space at street level.

However, Lucky's is not moving out quite yet. On Twitter, they say they have a couple more weeks left for people to stop by.

And while the shop has to close up soon, it doesn't mean the business is finished.

If they haven't found a new home by the time they have to lock up at 3972 Main St., they plan to move to an online only storefront (with free delivery) until they can find a new physical space.

"We’re looking for a new home…but it ain’t easy to find! Like residential rentals, retail space has gone bonkers on price. Looking at creative solutions. Maybe even a shared space?" they write.
