Vancouver will be the final stop for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, and that means Metro Vancouver's transit system is shifting into high gear.
TransLink has announced it will offer increased service on Dec. 6, 7, and 8 (the dates of Swift's three concerts at BC Place), including more trips and extended hours.
SeaBus trips will go every 10 minutes from 3 p.m. until the end of service, while SkyTain service will ramp up in the late afternoon and at night to meet people's travel needs.
"We're maximizing frequency, and that's across all three modes, so people can get to the concerts safely and swiftly," said TransLink spokesperson Tina Lovgreen.
Along with increasing the frequency of SkyTrain and SeaBus trips (and some bus routes), the transit system will be running later than usual each night.
The last SeaBus trip will leave Waterfront station at 1:22 a.m., while the final SkyTrain and Canada Line trips head out at 1:15 a.m. each night (including Sunday, Dec. 8).
They've also created a video guide for people who may need help navigating the Vancouver transit system.
Special buses
Special shuttle buses are being organized to go directly between Waterfront Station and BC Place after the concerts.
Though they are not a regular route, the service will still require a fare payment, Lovgreen noted.
The shuttle bus stop site at BC Place has not been determined yet, but Lovgreen said concert-goers can expect to have no trouble finding where to go after the show if they wish to use the service.
West Coast Express service
The West Coast Express will have a single additional run during the Eras Tour weekend.
"We'll run a special West Coast Express train on the Saturday (Dec. 7) that will depart Mission at 4 p.m. and then depart from Waterfront back to Mission at midnight," Lovegreen says.
Fares for that will operate as normal. It will be a first-come, first-served situation.
Little ferries (for transport within Vancouver)
Both the Aquabus and False Creek Ferries have announced plans to run late-night ferries on False Creek after the shows to help people leave the area if they're headed to the West End, the Olympic Village, Fairview, or Kitsilano.
"The little blue ferries will be running rain or shine, every 7 minutes until 12:30 on concert nights," reads the False Creek Ferries website.
Aquabus hasn't shared exact times but has stated it will "be running all weekend and late after each show to get you to and from the concert" on social media.
Big ferries (for transport to/from the Mainland)
BC Ferries has extra sailings on two of the three nights of the tour dates.
On Friday, Dec. 6, two sailings have been added in both directions between Victoria and Vancouver (Tsawwassen): one at 5 a.m. and one at 11 p.m.
Ferries will be operating normally throughout the day, with sailings every two hours. Vehicle reservations have already sold out for some time going from Victoria to Vancouver.
On Sunday, Dec. 8, late-night sailings have been organized from Victoria at 11 p.m. and from Vancouver (Tsawwassen) to Victoria at 1 a.m. (technically on Dec. 9).
Aside from the extra sailings, ferries will be operating normally throughout the day, with sailings every two hours.
“With the 60-year-old Queen of New Westminster out of service, space will be more limited than usual and parking at the terminals will fill up quickly," said BC Ferries' Melanie Lucia in a press release.
As BC Ferries will have extra sailings over the weekend, Taylor Swift fans will find there are extra buses to the ferries as well.
Transit customers can catch the 620 Tsawwassen Ferry bus from the Canada Line at Bridgeport Station. "We'll be extending service on the 620 to ensure customers can catch the final sailing by transit," says TransLink on its website.
Hullo Ferries has also added extra sailings from downtown Vancouver to Nanaimo.
Each night of the tour, two sailings have been added afterwards: one at 11:59 p.m. and one at 12:30 a.m.
Some sailings have already sold out.
