A rainfall warning has been issued for Metro Vancouver with up to 50 to 70 millimetres of rain expected.

Environment Canada issued the warning on Friday at 11 a.m. for Howe Sound, North Shore, Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley and the Sea to Sky.

The warning is also for Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Abbotsford, Mission, Squamish and Whistler.

"A robust and rain-laden frontal system will slide down the B.C. coast today,” says a meteorologist.

Rain will be heavy at times and will start late Friday for Howe Sound and the Sea to Sky. The rain will start in the evening for the remainder of the regions.

"The heaviest rain will ease later Saturday morning as the frontal system passes through,” says Environment Canada.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible and visibility for drivers may be impacted.
